A photographic journey....

A Day in the Life of Winchester and its Christmas Market

'A Documentary Photographic Profile' by Jessica Mills

It is that festive time of year once more and Winchester Cathedral are holding their annual Christmas Market featuring a large variety of stalls selling Christmassy gifts. In my photographic profile I wanted to show a day in the life of Winchester throughout the course of a single day.  I chose to include the Christmas market as the location for my documentary profile as it is open all day and when it gets dark, the lights are on and the market has a warm glow. There are many opportunities for both daylight and also night time photographs and the market is a constantly moving scene allowing me to capture the passing of time. Below is my collection of photographs which I hope you will all enjoy looking at

The Cathedral is one of Winchester's most famous landmarks and plays host to the city's annual Christmas-time market.

A folk band in the High Street entertains the public as they shop around for Christmas presents and head to the Cathedral and the Christmas Market.

We Will Remember Them!- In the Cathedral grounds, Winchester's War Memorial
stands proud remembering those soldiers who died serving King and Country.

As dusk descends on Winchester, the lanterns lead the way to the market where
a variety of activities keep the whole family entertained

Busy shoppers stroll around for those Christmas bargains
at the traditional market stalls

ready for Christmas Eve
